The Question and Answer Session
The Question and Answer session steps you through a series of
screens. Each question must be answered to properly complete a
document.
The Question and Answer Screen is divided into four sections:
1. Question and Example
2. Comments
3. Response Area
4. Prompt Line
Answering the Questions
Some questions require you to make a selection from a list of
options. You must type the answers to others.
Entering an Answer
■ If the Question requires an answer from the keyboard, simply
begin typing.
■ If you make a mistake while typing an answer, you can correct
your answer using the backspace, delete or insert keys. You
can also press the [F2] key to erase your entry and start
over (see Editing Key Summary earlier in this Help Topic).
Note: Home Lawyer requires that all questions be answered.
If you don't know the answer to a question, type a
question mark (?) and press [Enter] or [F10]. You can
go back and complete the question at a later time.
■ When entering a block or several lines of information,
be sure to end each line with a complete word or sentence.
Correct:
The curling iron my daughter purchased failed to heat up.
Despite testing it at several electrical outlets, the
heat sensor light failed to turn colors from red to
black.
Incorrect:
The curling iron my daughter purchased failed to heat up
. Despite testing it at several electrical outlets
, the heat sensor light failed to turn colors from red to
black.
Entering States
When a question asks for the name of a state, use the two-
letter abbreviation. Home Lawyer will automatically convert
the two-letter abbreviation to the entire name when necessary
(i.e. WA will convert to Washington).
■ If you are unsure of the state abbreviation, select the topic
General Editing from the Help Menu.
■ Press [End] to display the list of state abbreviations.
■ Press [Esc] twice to quit Help.
Hint: If you prefer, you can enter the entire state name
(e.g. Washington).
Entering Dates
All dates are entered in the MM/DD/YY or MM/DD/YYYY format.
Home Lawyer will automatically convert it to words when
needed in the completed document (e.g. 09/28/90 will convert
to September 28, 1990).
For some questions, Home Lawyer automatically suggests the
system date (the current date entered in your computer).
■ Press [Enter] to use the suggested date and continue to the
next question.
■ To change the suggested date, type over the existing date
or press [F2] to clear the date and enter a new one.
Selecting a Response
Some questions require selecting an answer from a list. You
will be asked to type the letter of your choice.
■ Enter the letter of the desired response.
The selected response will appear in the Response Area.
■ If you make a mistake, enter the letter of your new choice.
■ Press [F10] Next or [Enter].
The program accepts the answer and moves on to the next
question.
Changing an Answer
If you have already moved on to the next Question and want to
correct or change a previous answer, you have two choices:
1. Press [F9] to move back question by question. Use the
editing keys to make changes (see Editing Key Summary
earlier in this Help Topic). When the change is complete,
press [F10] to move forward.
2. At the end of a Question and Answer session, you can edit
your answers. See Edit Answers later in this Help Topic.
Using Your Saved Answers
Home Lawyer automatically saves your answers when a document is
completed. The document can be re-created using those answers
without re-typing information.
■ To prepare a document using your saved answers, highlight the
document title from the Main Menu and press [Enter].
Home Lawyer automatically checks to see if a set of answers for
that document exists. When one exists, a prompt appears.
■ Use the arrow keys to highlight the desired option.
■ Press [Enter].
Select Use Previous to use the saved answers to complete the
document.
Select Create New to ignore the saved answers and enter new
ones.
If you select Create New, Home Lawyer will display the first
Question and Answer Screen. The Response Area will be blank,
ready for you to type new answers.
If you select Use Previous, the Options Menu appears.
■ Use the arrow keys to highlight the desired option.
■ Press [Enter].
See Review and Print Options earlier in this section for a
description of your options.
Using Document Worksheets
The worksheet option prints a list of the questions used with a
particular document. Use the worksheet as a guide when
collecting information.
■ At the Home Lawyer Main Menu, highlight the desired document
title and press [Enter] to select it.
■ Press [F3] Worksheet. A print message appears.
Select Continuous if your printer has continuous forms or a
paper tray.
Select Manual for manual feed.
■ Make sure your printer is turned on and ready to print.
■ Using your arrow keys, highlight your selection.
■ Press [Enter] to print the worksheet.
When the worksheet has been printed, Home Lawyer will return to
the Question and Answer Screen.
■ Continue to answer the questions or press [Esc] to return to
the Main Menu.
Hint: You can print a worksheet at any time during a Question
and Answer session. The worksheet will include the
answers to questions you have completed. Write
additional information on the worksheet and use that as
a typing guide to complete document preparation.
